Prof Daniel Streicker

Viral Ecology | Co-principal Investigator, University of Glasgow

Prof Daniel Streicker has approximately 18 years of research experience in the epidemiology and evolution of pathogens in wildlife, predominantly bats but also in wild rodents. His work in Latin America has revealed pitfalls of current strategies to manage vampire bat transmitted rabies via culling and has revealed how scalable platforms for wildlife vaccination could alleviate zoonotic transmission. He has also developed metagenomic methods to characterize unbiased viral communities from noninvasive samples and pioneered the use of machine learning to predict the human infectivity of viruses and their animal reservoir associations from viral genome sequences.
